Can Science Explain Everything?

Can Science Explain Everything?
Sunday, October 13, 2019, 12:30 PM - 2:00 PM

Location: Christ Church | Ignite Room 256, 7600 Ox Road, Fairfax Station, VA US 22039

Living in the 21st century, it is obvious that science has had a major positive impact on the human condition. But can science successfully address all aspects of our lives? Is it true that religion relies on faith, but science doesn’t? Are miracles possible, or are they impossible violations of the laws of nature? Does the universe we inhabit appear to be the product of time, matter, and chance? Or is the most plausible explanation that it was created by a loving God?

Join Paul Carlier, Professor of Chemistry and Director of the Center for Drug Discovery at Virginia Tech, where he has taught since 2000. He received his PhD in Organic Chemistry from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and currently leads a research team of nine students towards the development of new antimalarial drugs. He volunteers with the Bradley Study Center at Virginia Tech, which exists to help both students and faculty understand the implications of the Christian faith for every field of study, and every aspect of life. He and his wife Debbie attend Blacksburg Christian Fellowship, where they serve in music ministry.
