From the Heart and Desk of Pastor John
Have you ever noticed that some of God’s greatest blessings in your life are those that have seemed too impossible? I think of Moses and his challenge to get God’s people to the Promised Land. When the reconnaissance team members came back and reported what they saw in their God-promised land, they recognized it was a great place, “flowing with milk and honey.” They also recognized the challenges, and they were scared. They believed getting to the Promised Land was an impossible task. At first, their lack of faith caused them to remain in the wilderness for another 40 years, but when God’s people finally obeyed, God took care of the obstacles as He said He would. What seemed to be completely impossible was made possible by God.
Back in 1992, the small handful of people faced what seemed to be an impossible challenge. The challenge was not how we were going to build a building, although we had no church building of our own. The challenge was whether or not we were going to be able to continue as a church! The Alexandria District was paying our rent at Silverbrook School and the Virginia Conference was paying the majority of my salary. Look how far God has brought us. What seemed to be completely impossible was made possible by God.
Through the years, God has brought the people of Christ Church through many challenges that have seemed impossible. He has never failed us … ever. In fact, we have grown stronger, deeper, wider and higher with every challenge as we’ve followed God in faithful obedience.
The challenge before us today is no different than the challenges we’ve faced before. God has placed before us a Promised Land. We can see it, but we haven’t occupied it. It is the place to which God has called us. The obstacles are great, but we serve an even greater God who never fails.
It is time to go. I’m excited about what our future holds. The people of Christ Church have never backed away from obstacles and challenges. We’ve always faced them with confidence and this time it will be no different. I’m excited about what the Lord is doing in and through us. It is time to come together with great faith with the full armor of God. It is time to go.
As Israel was preparing to cross the Jordan River into the Promised Land, God said,
Be strong and courageous.
Do not be terrified; do not be discouraged,
for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.
Joshua 1:9
It is time to go.
